Community Library Built for Safer Access
Construction of a new 12,420-square-foot public library for the County of Santa Cruz, replacing the former Aptos Library facility. The project prioritized safe access, clear circulation, and long-term functionality for the community.
Challenge
The former site created conflicts between pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles, limiting accessibility and raising safety concerns. The new facility needed to resolve these issues while remaining an active community resource.
Approach
Bogard collaborated early with the design team and County representatives to resolve circulation and access challenges before construction began. Careful sequencing and coordination across trades supported steady progress and minimized disruption.
On-site supervision focused on accessibility features, safe pathways, and construction details designed to support long-term public use.
Result
The completed library provides safer access for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles while remaining a central gathering place for the Aptos community.
